Loamé Kok (Van Zyl) BSc

Consultant

Loame first came to AbacusBio as an intern, while pursuing a genetics degree at the University of Otago. She is highly driven and brings her creative, pragmatic mindset towards her work at AbacusBio.

At AbacusBio, she is involved in several projects looking at the development of practical packages to support the development of new plant products, especially those with a focus on bioactives.

Loame’s role is to review literature and develop business and strategy plans for the development of production to market value chains. She is currently looking at Nigella Sativa (a small black seed that comes from a flowering plant in the Ranunculacea family), medical cannabis, and eventually turmeric.

Her focus within AbacusBio is:
  • Review of scientific and technical literature
  • Science commercialisation
  • Genetic improvement and breeding programme
